I've always gone deeper than I needed to. Start pulling on one thread and end up somewhere I didn't plan, learning things I didn't know existed until I got there. You can't know what to ask for until you've gone far enough to find it. That same instinct follows me into every deal: keep going until I find the right answer, not just the acceptable one. Anything less doesn't sit right.
I came in as an SDR and moved into closing mid-market deals inside a year. Building pipeline, figuring out the ICP, developing messaging that stuck. None of it came from a playbook, and none of it happened alone. Early-stage startup work pulls you into every part of the business, and you come out understanding how a company actually gets built, how GTM comes together, what it takes to go from nothing to something real. The team around you in that environment shapes how you grow, and working alongside people who hold each other to a high standard teaches you things that go well beyond just selling.
